EGL2 Postcard – upcoming works near Drax
We are writing to let you know about upcoming works for the Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) project
near Drax. This will require a temporary road closure on Main Road.
Works near Drax
We are in the process of preparing for the installation of our underground electricity cables.
This includes installing a temporary access point (known as a bellmouth) on Main Road. This will
provide safe entry and exit for vehicles using our haul road – a temporary road used to transport
materials, machinery and people during construction facilitating the installation of cables and the
delivery of resources along the wider cable route.
To complete the bellmouth installation, a temporary road closure is expected to be in place on Main
Road, from Monday 19 October for approximately one week. A signed diversion route will be in
place.
You may notice an increase in construction traffic and some noise during this time. We know this may
be disruptive and we will do all we can to reduce the impact.
Our contractor, Prysmian, supported by Balfour Beatty, will carry out the works and manage traffic
throughout to minimise disruption.
About the project
Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) is a major UK energy infrastructure project connecting Scotland and
England via a subsea electricity cable.
The 505 km, two-gigawatt high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable will link Peterhead in
Aberdeenshire with Drax in North Yorkshire, allowing electricity to flow in both directions.
In England, the onshore cable route will run between Wren Hall Converter Station at Drax and the
landfall site at Fraisthorpe Sands near Bridlington.
